Queen Latifah is back in action as Robyn McCall — a single mother with a mysterious background who uses her skills to protect and defend those who have nowhere else to turn to. CBS announced the return of their 1980s series The Equalizer, which originally featured Edward Woodward, in Nov. 2019 and it’s finally here.

“What’s up with you, mom? Out of nowhere you quit your job last month, you wanna talk about it?” asks Robyn’s daughter Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) who is kept out of the blue on her mother’s true career choice along with the CIA. “It’s complicated,” Robyn responds.

The Emmy-award winning actress also serves as the co-creator and executive producer for the series. Adapted as a feature film starring Denzel Washington in 2015, the series marks the second reboot of The Equalizer franchise.

Set to premiere after the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, the cast also includes Lorraine Toussaint (Selma) as Frieda ‘Aunt Fry’ Lascombe who’s been living with Robyn and her daughter since the divorce. She is a wary optimist but also has undeniable wisdom.
