Missy Elliott completely dominated the stage during the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The legendary emcee took to the stage and performed a melody of some of her greatest hits.

After giving the audience everything they needed and came for, Cardi B presented the Get Your Freak On songstress with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

There were also tributes during last night’s show from Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Lil Kim, Ciara, and newcomer Lizzo.

While accepting her award the icon shared “I have worked diligently for over two decades and I never thought I would be standing up here receiving this award. It means so much to me.”

Last week the Virginia native blessed us again by releasing ICONOLOGY, her first album in 14 years.

2019 has been quite the year for the 48-year-old-rapper. Earlier this year she was honored and inducted into the Song Writers Hall of Fame, making her the first black female hip hop artist to do so. During the ceremony, Queen Latifah and Michelle Obama surprised her with a touching tribute.
