After battling years of kidney failure, rapper Freeway finally got the transplant he needed! He underwent surgery on Tuesday, and everything went well.

The Roc-A-Fella Records emcee took to Instagram to let his fans know how he was doing: “What’s up everybody? Thank y’all for the prayers and all your support. Everything went well, the surgery went well. I’m in recovery. God is good. I got the new kidney. The doctor said everything is fine. Thank y’all man, I really felt the prayers. It meant a lot.”

A few days ago, the Philadelphia native told fans the miraculous news of the doctors finding him a new kidney, and he was in a Baltimore hospital awaiting his new organ.

The “Roc The Mic” lyricist announced in 2015 that he had been diagnosed with kidney failure and was undergoing daily dialysis. He took to his music to address it in his independently released record, “Free Will” in 2016, according to Page Six.

In an interview with Okayplayer three years ago, the 39-year-old expressed how his faith held him together after his prognosis: “It was drastic for my family. It was something that we all weren’t expecting. When I got the diagnosis, the first thing I did was go to the masjid, pray and ask God to help me with whatever the situation is.”

Leslie Pridgen (his real name) has been given a second chance with this transplant, and there’s no telling the beautiful story that will come out of this.
