Earlier this week Da Brat came under fire for what some called victim blaming, after speaking out against the accusers of the Surviving R. Kelly documentary. While at the Trumpet Awards over the weekend, the rapper said she does believe he needs help and the blame should be put on someone else: “But at the same time, where are the parents? So, I think he needs help for sure. I love him. I hope he don’t get mad at me and I think the parents need to take responsibility. Where is your 14-year-old child? Why are you there? Something wrong with that.”

Now the reality star and rapper is walking back her controversial comments, telling her Rickey Smiley Morning Show co-hosts, “So this past weekend, I did the red carpet at the Trumpet awards and TMZ asked me about the R. Kelly situation and I just need to make myself clear. I stayed up all night and watched the documentary over. And I had to reevaluate myself, I was in denial. I had to truly dissect the way I view relationships in my life and those I call family,” she said. “You think you know somebody, and you don’t. No one deserves this, and right is right and no man or woman should ever have to endure sexual violence of any kinds. Also to the parents I’m sorry that you have to go through this and that you continue to go through this,” she said. “I stand on the side of right. And wrong is wrong and right is right. Sexually violating anybody is wrong and I was wrong.”

On Wednesday Taraji P. Henson had to clarify her statements surrounding R. Kelly as well. In a series of now-deleted videos that show her scrolling through Instagram, searching the hashtags #MuteRKellyand #MuteHarveyWeinstein. What she found was an overwhelmingly amount of posts under the singer’s hashtag and almost none under the Hollywood executive’s.

Yikes! While Tank, Ne-Yo and Omarion have publicly denounced Kelly and the 52-year-old has been dropped by his record label, his Spotify streamed increased by 21% after the airing of the documentary, unfortunately proving that it may truly be hard to mute him.
