The long-awaited series American Soul is almost here and the newest clip is steeped in nostalgia! Sinqua Walls, who surprisingly does very well as Don Cornelius, tries to convince Gladys Knight (played by Kelly Rowland) to join Soul Train, “a national television show written, produced and directed by Black folks.”
The 10-episode show follows the life and legacy of Cornelius and stars newcomers Jelani Watson, Katlyn Nichol and Iantha Richardson.
The project is also laced with a few familiar faces portraying some of music’s biggest names. Kelly Price and Jason Dirden (Greenleaf) have reoccurring roles while McKinley Freeman has been cast as Ike Turner, Michelle Williams as Diana Ross, Gabrielle Dennis as Tina Turner, K. Michelle as Martha Reeves and Bobby Brown as Rufus Thomas.
