Our very own “Princess of Hip-Hop and R&B” Ashanti sold only 24 tickets to her upcoming performance at Stony Brook University. After these low numbers, the university was forced to cancel the concert.

In a statement released by the school, they said:

As an organization, we do our best to host programs for students while providing diversity and inclusion. However, we have struggled to execute certain aspects. With only a week before the concert, only 24 tickets were sold to students.

But wait, there’s more to this story…

First, the school added the Foolish singer just two weeks ago, after Teyana Taylor suddenly pulled out. Meaning, they had little time to promote the change in headliners. Second, these are college-aged kids born between the years of 1997 and the 2000 ?. Her top-selling album Ashanti peaked in 2002 – these children had barely slid into the world when she was dominating the charts.

All in all, just because of a couple of college kids aren’t checking for her, means nothing! She’s still tops the list in our hearts with back-to-back hits like Foolish, Happy, Baby…and that’s just her debut album. And, all the hooks she sang for Ja Rule back in the day (BTW…this video has a 159M views on YouTube).

Stony Brook, can we attend? Better yet, Ashanti, let’s get this revival tour going and let us document it all for Unsung!

TELL US: If Ashanti performed near you, would you purchase tickets?
