It looks like Russell Simmons‘ #NotMe campaign against his sexual assault accusations was successful for him. The 60-year-old’s lawsuit accusing him of rape was dropped on Wednesday. Simmons has defended his innocence since allegations began surfacing last year. His ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons even stepped in to defend him in the midst of the accusations.

The $5 million lawsuit was filed in January by Jennifer Jarosik, who claimed she was raped by the producer in his home. Jarosik is one of ten women to accuse him of sexual assault in 2018 so far. Additionally he was accused of trying to rape fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone, prompting Oprah to drop him from her spirituality book. After the news of the mogul’s innocence, T.I. posted a supportive message on Instagram.
Although the author won a victory in court this week, his fight for innocence is not over just yet.
In a less successful turn of events for other black men in the entertainment industry, R. Kelly was dropped by his lawyer, publicist, and assistant among new sexual assault claims. Tavis Smiley is facing multiple sexual assault allegations, and most recently Bill Cosby was found guilty today of three counts of sexual assault. This is viewed by many as a win for the #MeToo movement. Has justice been served?
