Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown is making light of a tragic situation! As you might know, her son was killed in 2014 at the hands of a police officer who was not charged. While speaking on a panel at the Harvard University on Monday, she made a major announcement about her plans for the future:
“We have to get behind people who look like us and get them in these elected seats so that they can really do what’s right by the community,” she said. “I’m going to start with me by running for Ferguson city council, and hopefully I can elevate.”

The Brown’s family attorney Benjamin Crump was also on the panel and noted that if elected to the council, McSpadden would oversee and supervise the police department responsible for the death of her son. As difficult as it would be, she would use her pain and experience to prevent situations like what her family went through. Additionally, Crump is the host of the brand new TV One original docu-series Evidence Of Innocence, that exposes the true stories of innocent people who served prison sentences for crimes they did not commit. The 37-year-old is definitely a fighter! Last year, she completed high school and earned her diploma 21 years after leaving school to care for her late son. She doesn’t plan on giving up anytime soon, and we can’t wait to see how her election unfolds!
