If you watched the promo for tonight’s Unsung about Johnnie Taylor, you’ll hear some people say some . . . things about him.
Scandalous things like “he was a pimp” and a “con artist.” And we’re not here to say what Johnnie did or didn’t do — other than make some damn good music.
But what we ARE here to say is that IF Johnnie had a checkered past, he wouldn’t be the first singer with a record (pun intended). Behold and tell us if we missed one:

- Chris Brown — In February of 2009, Chris Brown put his hands on Rihanna and a virtual stranglehold on his rocketing career. Ultimately, Brown got five years probation.
- Michael Jackson — After years of rumors, Michael Jackson was brought to trial for child molestation in 2005. He was famously acquitted and celebrated by dancing on a car.
- Shyne — Hailed as the second coming of Biggie Smalls, Shyne was poised to take hip hop by storm until he was convicted of attempted murder while out with Sean Combs and Jennifer Lopez.
- D’Angelo — Missing from the scene after his smash “Voodoo” album, D’Angelo made headlines in 2005 after being arrested for drunk driving and possession of drugs. Ultimately, he was handed a three-year suspended sentence.
