Jennifer Lopez's Emotional Post Grammy Motown Performance 'You Can't Tell People What They Can't Sing' [WATCH]

Sunday’s Grammys left most of us feeling — underwhelmed. Dubbed the biggest night in music, the 61st showing of the iconic award show starred everyone from Janelle Monae to Cardi B. But it was Jennifer Lopez‘s controversial Motown tribute that had people holding their breath. Could she do it? Black Twitter certainly did think so. But there’s was one person who did — Smokey Robinson. Before the show, the 78-year-old defended the eye-brow raising decision, “I don’t think anyone who is intelligent is upset. I think anyone who is upset is stupid.”

Thoughts? After her performance she responded to critics, saying, “Any type of music can inspire any type of artist. You can’t tell people what to love. You can’t tell people what they can and can’t do — what they should sing or not sing.” Watch below.

And while we will get another opportunity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic label in April, which performances by Diana Ross, Ciara, Boyz II Men, John Legend and more, The tribute of the night undoubtedly went to Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and Andra Day.
