Remember when Usher left Clive Davis‘ pre-Grammy party early in 2009? Well, his ex-wife, Tameka Foster recently took to Instagram to share a testimony from what she went through that night. Ten years ago, the former stylist was married to the “My Boo” singer, just gave birth to her second son, and wasn’t happy with her life.

In her post she said, “10 years ago today I suffered a cardiac arrest in Brazil. #Flatlined #IDied. I was married, publicly shamed and didn’t ever feel like I was enough, pretty enough, exotic enough, slim enough, light enough, worthy enough.”

As we now know, the reason she was in the South American country was to get liposuction. According to various reports, after receiving anesthesia, Foster suffered a heart attack and was later transferred to a medical facility in Sao Paulo. In 2017, she sat down and was open about not telling her former partner about getting plastic surgery. Watch below:

On a positive note, she didn’t let that situation get her down or define her. “Today I’m 20 pounds heavier, feel much prettier, single AF, happier, and so amazingly worthy,” the 48-year-old said.

Sometimes things happen for a reason, and now, the mother of four (two of which are fathered by the R&B star) can be a champion for self-love in knowing that her time on this earth wasn’t finished.

There are many different thoughts on getting nips and tucks, but according to Dr. Nia Banks, there has been an increase of black women who are getting cosmetic changes in recent years. Even supermodel Tyra Banks admitted last year to getting some work done: “Natural beauty is unfair…I had bones in my nose that were growing and itching. I could breathe fine, but I added cosmetic surgery. I admit it! Fake hair, and I did my nose. I feel I have a responsibility to tell the truth.”
