Elections for Michigan’s House of Representatives have started and there’s one candidate who bears a familiar last name and face. Rita Ross, a long-serving advocate for the city of Detroit, is the sister of the legendary Diana Ross.

According to Rita’s website, “she champions the city’s infrastructure, criminal justice reform, livable wages, a single-payer healthcare system and expanding early childhood education. She’s served for almost 20 years on the Michigan Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board and has worked to save senior citizens’ homes from tax foreclosure.”

With Detroit’s primary elections coming up on August 7, Diana helped spread the news of her sister’s candidacy on social media, calling her a “dedicated Detroiter”.

Rita is running against six other opponents and could possibly make history if she wins. Just last week Stacey Abrams made history as the Georgia Democratic nominee for Governor.
