Saxophonist Charles Neville of the legendary Neville Brothers died at the age of 79 last week of pancreatic cancer. His brother, Aaron, took to Facebook to announce the news and pay tribute.

Formed in 1977, brothers Art, Aaron, Charles and Cyril Neville were widely known for their eclectic New Orleans style music that often merged gospel, R&B, blues and funk together.

Known for his infectious smile, Charles, who often donned a black beret and colorful shirt won a Grammy for best pop instrumental in 1990 for Neville’s Healing Chant.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Neville family.
