This 29-Year-Old Runs A $90 Million Black-Owned Airline In The Bahamas

Sherrexcia “Rexy” Rolle is making major moves! The 29-year old is currently running the largest black-owned airline in the Bahamas.

Rexy serves as the Vice President of Operations and General Counsel for the airline valued at $90 million, and is one of the youngest executives to lead a black-owned airline! She joins the list of young black-girl-bosses who are making power moves this year, including Melissa Butler who makes history with her lipstick line, The Lip Bar, becoming the first Black-owned vegan brand sold at Target.

Western Air Bahamas was started by Rolle’s parents, Rex and Shandrice Rolle in 2001. Rex was a pilot for many years. The Rolles realized a need for jets that accessed the many islands in the Bahamas, and that’s where the airline was born! With nearly 700 islands in the region, people commonly used small ferries to get from island to island. The Rolles introduced a more efficient way to travel.

“Once we recognized those gaps in the market, we were able to convince our investors why our airline is needed,” Rexy told Bauce Magazine.

Although Rexy is young, she makes sure to demand respect and always keep it professional when it comes to meetings and being a boss.

“I learned that if you want people to take you seriously, especially in this industry where I have to constantly negotiate claims and deal with serious regulations, you must be confident in what you know and only do business with people who are focused on the mission in sealing the deal.”

Rexy also has a Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and wants to one day become pilot! She is just getting started serving all of this #BlackGirlMagic and we can’t wait to see what her next major move will be.
