Winning the title of American Idol in 2004 may also have been Fantasia’s coronation as the next R&B diva. She was the first artist to ever debut at number 1 on the Billboard charts with her first single “I Believe” and she was nominated for a Grammy for her first album, “Truth.” But her path to diva success hasn’t been easy. As chronicled in her autobiography and the Lifetime movie, Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, Fantasia struggled past rape at 16, raising a child on her own, and illiteracy to realize her dreams. Goes to show, you can’t keep a good diva down.
