A month after the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, the hashtag #BlackMenSmiling was created to show the opposite of what the world was used to seeing, an increasingly alarming number of black bodies left to die in the streets. While the campaign didn’t garner much traction then, four years later Carlton Mackey and Devan Dmarcus Dunson‘s unique hashtag has been used more than 20,000 times across social media.

Mackey and Dunson’s mission remains clear, create a space for black men to celebrate the way we see them — strong, courageous, admirable, educated and fine as hell…okay, okay that last part was me.

In an effort to further amplify the voices of black men, Mackey and Dunson have teamed up with comedian Ra’sclat Al Ghul, to expand the campaign, bringing a much needed positive representation of black men back to the forefront.

And for that brothers, we support you! For more information on the campaign and to learn more about what Mackey and Dunson are up to, visit Black Men Smile.
