Congratulations Marley Dias! The 12-year-old founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks joins an elite class of young achievers on the 2018 Forbes ’30 Under 30′ list. Even amongst her “youngest cohort” – the under 20 set, she is the youngest person to make the list this year.

She started her platform #1000BlackGirlBooks because fewer than 10 percent of children’s books released in 2015 featured a black person as the main character. She didn’t see herself in the books she read, so she made her goal to collect as many books about black girls as she could find.
Today, Dias has added more than 9,000 books to her list. And next year, she’ll be adding to the #1000BlackGirlBooks list with her own book Marley Dias Gets It Done to be published soon.
