Gracing the cover of the latest issue of JET magazine, the star of Scandal and increasingly political actress Kerry Washington discussed the issue of voting, and more importantly, why Black women can’t take their right for granted. Washington spoke at this year’s Democratic National Convention while also traveling the country in support of President Obama’s reelection bid. In her interview with JET, she talks on why she’s voting and why women like her ought to be, too.
On the election & why she’s voting:
“Who is in the office impacts everything from what you eat, education, who you love and where you live…so many others have put their lives on the line to help us to gain these rights to vote, and for us not to use that ability is an insult to history.”
On the luxury Black women don’t have:
“For Black Women it has never been a luxury to not being anything else but strong.”
