Girls Trip proved to be the box-office smash that we knew it could be, earning $31.25 million during opening weekend! Those numbers make the Will Packer produced film 2017’s first live action comedy success (the last time this happened? Bad Moms in 2016 at $23.8 million).

Packer and his wife Heather celebrated the news by jokingly closing down a bar in Florida.

So what was the formula for success? According to Forbes, in a society where women are naturally looked at as nurturers and caretakers, seeing the opposite really resonated. Our take? Four black women at the helm of a film produced by a black man is ALL we needed to support. In addition, Hollywood heavyweights like Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah lended much credibility to the film.

And we can’t forget about all the eye candy.
