Russell Simmons‘ brainchild, ‘Def Poetry Jam’, originally aired on HBO with host Mos Def between 2002 and 2007. The show, filled with spoken word performances, have had appearances from major artists like Kanye West and Erykah Badu. And now, Simmons is working to bring it back.

Def poetry has won a Peabody award, Image award ,and a Tony award. Now I think I want an Emmy. The hood needs a Emmy.

Simmons is coming for that Emmy and he is enlisting Emmy nominee Chance The Rapper to assist.

With the gigantic fan base the Grammy award-winning artist, who is not signed to a major label, has been able to build and maintain, we definitely see this as a huge success for both Russell and Chance.

We can only hope the rebooted ‘Def Poetry Jam’ will be a continuation of ‘All Def Poetry’, which already has a strong following on YouTube.

TELL US: Would you watch Chance The Rapper host this reboot of ‘Def Poetry Jam’?
