On top of his awards, our favorite former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, gave tribute to the rapper before he received the Humanitarian Award.

The rapper and activist is the youngest person to receive this award and was recognized for donating $1 million to public schools in his hometown of Chicago, IL. He has also led campaigns giving outerwear to homeless Chicago natives, and led a march to Chicago voting polls on election day during the 2016 Presidential election.

Obama’s tribute moved him and other audience members to tears. Following her tribute, Chance gave an impromptu and “from the heart” speech. He closes his speech making a promise to continue to better himself for his son and his family so that he can continue to work to better the world.
