In a scene right out of a Hannibal Lecter movie, Rudy Eugene, a 31-year-old black man in Miami, Florida, was shot and killed by police over the Memorial Day weekend after he was found eating another man’s face right off of his still very much alive and naked body. When police arrived and tried to apprehend the mauler, Eugene growled at the officer and continued chowing down on his victim, 65-year-old Ronald Poppo who was homeless at the time of the incident.
Police described the scene as one of the goriest they’ve worked. Poppo lost 75% of his face in the attack and remains in critical condition. As for Eugene, his ex told reporters he was often paranoid and there’s speculation he may have been in a drug-induced psychosis from bath salts at the time of the attack. Sgt. Armando Aguilar, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police told reporters, "He had his face eaten down to his goatee. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth. In my opinion, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time." Wrong place? Wrong time? SMH … you think?
