Shellie Zimmerman

George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, was arrested and charged with perjury on Tuesday after prosecutors presented evidence that she lied under oath at Zimmerman’s bond hearing. According to transcripts from jailhouse phone calls between Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie was well-aware of how many donations their website had collected on his behalf, and she transferred over $74,000 out of his account only days before the bond hearing where she testified that she didn’t have any knowledge of income earned from the website.

Zimmerman’s bond was revoked earlier this month after prosecutors discovered he withheld information about his finances. His new bond hearing is scheduled for June 29. Shellie has already bonded out on $1,000 and will appear before the judge on July 31 to answer for the perjury charge. The sentence carries a maximum five-year prison sentence, but legal experts agree she is most likely looking at community service or probation.

What does this mean for Zimmerman? In a case where his credibility is already being questioned, his wife’s testimony could also be questioned given she’s already proven to lie for her husband.
