Just last week, we said happy birthday to Thelma from “Good Times” and today we send wishes to John Amos, better known as James Evans, who is celebrating today.
Before Cliff Huxtable, James Evans was our first Black TV dad. Stern but loving, hard-working and honest, James epitomized so many Black men we knew and he felt like family. So much so that when James died on the show, we, uh, we . . . we’re not gonna talk about this right now because the feels are too real.
Let’s instead, focus on Amos’ big day with this look at some of his best work on “Good Times.”
