Calling all Living Single fans! There’s a new set of Black female friends gearing up to take over the small screen, and you may recognize a familiar face. The Harlem-set female comedy, Run the World, has added Erika Alexander (Maxine Shaw on Living Single) to the cast, per Shadow and Act

Alexander shared the news on social media. “Living Single creator #YvetteLeeBowser and @LeighDavenport, gave me a call and said, ‘Hey friend, wanna come out n’ play?’ I put down my toenail clipper, took a swig of whiskey, and said, ‘Aw hell…here we go again!’ Lol. Now I get a chance to introduce you to a group of four new, beautiful Black women, this time in Harlem, who are ready to @runtheworldstarz. I play #BossLady #BarbBallard, and like #MaxineShaw, she’s a hoot!”

Run the World follows a group of Black women — vibrant, fiercely loyal best friends — who work, live, and play in Harlem as they strive for world domination. Sound familiar?

Leigh Davenport created the half-hour series and will serve as executive producer with showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser, the creative brains behind Living Single.

Run the World is a love letter to Black women and a love letter to Harlem, that I hope inspires young, ambitious Black women to feel powerful, desirable, and free,” said Davenport. “I created this series to celebrate the amazing women in my life and to illuminate the special bonds we built living in Harlem while pursuing our post-collegiate dreams.”

Alexander will be joining a cast that stars Amber Stevens, Andrea Bordeaux, Bresha Webb, and Corbin Reid.
