The sequel to the beloved 1988 classic Coming to America is in the process of being sold by Paramount Pictures to Amazon Studios for roughly $125 million, according to Variety. The movie is still expected to premiere on December 18 but final details are being ironed out; including a marketing deal with McDonald’s and the whiskey brand Crown Royal that will likely be transferred to Amazon.

The film was set to have a theatrical release on the same date but due to COVID-19, Paramount has been exploring their options weeks leading into the debut.

The original film starred Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem and Arsenio Hall as Semi. The two flee to New York from their wealthy fictional African country to escape an arranged marriage.

Although Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl JonesJohn Amos, and Paul Bates are set to reprise their roles from the classic film, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and Wesley Snipes will join the cast for the sequel.

In Coming 2 America, Prince Akeem discovers that he has a son. Returning to America with Semi by his side, the two will groom him to become the next crown prince.
