A few weeks after we lost Chadwick Boseman at 43 years old, his death certificate reveals more information that lead to his tragic and surprising passing.
The Black Panther star was laid to rest at Welfare Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton, South Carolina. According to his death certificate, the immediate cause of death was listed as multiple organ failure with the underlying cause of colon cancer.
Although Boseman had been diagnosed in 2016, fans and celebrities alike were unaware of his battle with cancer.
Following his diagnosis, he underwent surgery to remove the colon cancer and had laparoscopic surgery to remove cancer that had metastasized in March of this year.
Tributes immediately poured in for the NAACP Image Awards winner as he was remembered for the several roles he played that depicted Black heroes, legends, athletes, and many more. He filmed seven movies after his diagnosis with his final film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom set to be released on Netflix later this year.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Lupita Nyong’o, who worked alongside Boseman in Black Panther, addresses how he pushed through and worked with such a high purpose that in return, “Chadwick has made the infinite his home.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, after nearly a week since his death, his widow Taylor Simone Ledward was photographed with Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, and Winston Duke during a private memorial held in Malibu.
We will continue to keep Boseman’s family and friends in prayer.
