This is actually the second time the Black-ish creator has filed for divorce, he first submitted paperwork back in 2014, the same year his hit sitcom premiered. However, the couple ultimately decided to reconcile.
The show’s lead woman, Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson, played by Tracee Ellis Ross was inspired by Mrs. Barris. Both are anesthesiologists and mothers. On the show Rainbow has five children while the real doctor has six, whom she shares with Mr. Barris.

The couple has gone on record sharing that many times the relationship between Ellis’ character and Dre Johnson, played by Anthony Anderson reflects their own marriage.
Interestingly enough the show’s second spinoff, Mixed-ish, based on Bow Johnson’s childhood is set to debut this Fall.
Though this news is saddening to hear, fans can get excited about “Coming 2 America,” which is being penned by the L.A. native writer. Rick Ross, Kiki Layne, Leslie Jones, Eddie Murphy, John Amos, and Shari Headley have all been confirmed to star in the much anticipated “Coming To America” sequel.
The couple now joins the list of some major celebrity splits which includes Windy Williams and Kevin Hunter along with Monica and Shannon Brown.
