Gayle King sat down with Tina Turner for a very intimate conversation where they discussed her career and personal life in which the icon has recently highlighted in her new memoir, “My Love Story.”

One of the most profound moments of the interview came when Turner said she doesn’t acknowledge the abusive marriage to Ike Turner.

“When Ike asked me to marry him…I had to say yes… or it was gonna be a fight..so then, when we drove to marry, that wasn’t my idea of my wedding.”

She emotionally shared that her late ex-husband had been good to her at the start of the relationship but became “cruel” once he had to depend on her. Though the Turners we married for 16 years she considers her current marriage of 6 years to Erwin Bach to be her first.

The Proud Mary singer went on to describe her life after the divorce, including both beautiful moments and times of darkness with the death of her son, Craig.

If you were like us, hoping for a comeback tour or new music, you can hang that dream up. The 79-year old made it very clear that she is done with music and performing. When King mentioned that fans missed her the legend candidly suggested we go look at old videos.

The iconic singer turned author is now a citizen of Switzerland where she lives in a beautiful house overlooking Lake Zurich.
