On Sunday night Mary J. Blige said, “I am a servant” at the 2019 BET Awards. She most definitely served us a great performance after accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award honoring her decades of great and successful music.

The Grammy-winning singer blessed us with a medley of her iconic hits including “Real Love” and “Just Fine”, which had the live audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles bumping and out of their seats.

Not only did the songstress bring us back in time with her classic tunes, but she also pulled up in an all white 90’s inspired ensemble and did the two-step that we all know and love.

The performance didn’t stop with the 48-year-old. She invited some of our favorite rappers Method Man and fashion icon, Lil Kim, to drop their verses from Blige’s hits “You’re All I Need” and “I Can Love You”.

The lifetime achievement award was given to the “Queen of Hip Hop Soul” by Rihanna who thanked her for her influence in the music industry, especially among other black women artists.

“Mary J. Blige you have set the bar for relatable, timeless, classic music,” the richest woman in music said. “You opened multiple doors for female artists in this industry. And on behalf of all the women that came after you like myself, thank you for being comfortable being you so we could be comfortable being ourselves.”

The recent divorcee is stilling opening doors for other black women artists. Alongside Queen Latifah, she is spearheading the production of the Clark Sisters biopic.
