Blackish is gearing up for a Rainbow Johnson-centric episode and Tika Sumpter has been tapped to portray the role of Tracee Ellis Ross‘ character Rainbow Johnson’s mother.

Rounding out the cast is Anders Holm (The Haves and the Have Nots) and Arica Himmel (Before You Know It) who has been cast as Rainbow’s father and a teenage Bow, respectively. It’s been reported that the episode could potentially launch a series set in the 80s and 90s.

If you didn’t know, Kenya Barris, the show’s Executive Producer (he left ABC last year to sign a deal with Netflix), created Rainbow’s character after his real-life wife, Dr. Rainbow Edwards-Barris.
