It’s obvious LeBron James believes in assists both on and off the court, and he (and his business partner Maverick Carter) proved it by helping Octavia Spencer negotiate her salary for his upcoming Madam C.J. Walker series. She told The Undefeated, “When we were in negotiations, they had to … step up for me. He and Maverick … that type of leadership has been important, and I’m thrilled about it. When I asked for certain things, they had to go and say, ‘She deserves these things!’ It’s sad that we have to do that, but they did, and that’s what I’m working with: people who have no problem standing up.”

The Golden Globe winner will star and executive produce the eight-episode Netflix project that will tell the story of a woman who went from washing clothes to becoming the first African-American female millionaire.

Spencer is no stranger to speaking out against equal pay in the workplace, nor giving those that have made an impact their flowers. Last year she revealed her former The Help co-star, Jessica Chastain, was instrumental in her receiving five times her salary on their upcoming comedy.

While the Madam C. J. Walker series is in pre-production, James and Carter are working on a modern take on House Party and are teaming up with Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler for a remake on the 90s classic Space Jam.
