Coming out of Mt. Vernon, New York, Heavy D & the Boyz took the "golden age" of rap to another level, with a sound and style that made that made music safe for the masses, yet still thrilled  hard-core fans. The star, of course, was Heavy D, a big man as nimble on the dance floor as he was on the mic. While Eddie F. established himself among the most underrated producers in the game and dancers ‘Trouble’ T-Roy’ and ‘G-Whiz’, gave their live performances a sizzle and grace that helped usher in the era of New Jack Swing. The first band signed to Uptown Records, they also helped boost the careers of such up-and-coming talents as Teddy Riley, Puffy, Andre Harrell, and Pete Rock. But the group’s joyful reign was shaken by the tragic death of Troy Dixon, and the recent death of Heavy D brought a sorrowful closure to their career. Now, a full cast that includes Eddie F, G-Whiz, Andre Harrell, Pete Rock, Teddy Riley and Monifah, along with members of Heavy’s and Troy’s family, tell the full Unsung story of these beloved musical pioneers.
