Kelly Rowland has joined the cast of American Soul, the story of Don Cornelius‘ life and legacy, as Gladys Knight. The Jesse Collins production has also found its leading man in Sinqua Walls, most known for his role on Power.
Kelly Price and Jason Dirden (Greenleaf) have also been cast in the upcoming biopic. The Grammy-nominated singer is slated to star as Brianne Clarke, the “wise yet cautious” head of the Clarke family whose children Simone and Kendall are rising stars in Los Angeles.
Deadline reports Dirden plays Gerald Aims, an established gangster and club owner who hasn’t lost the hustle. Aims becomes Don Cornelius’ close associate – perhaps his only friend – introducing Don to the decadent world of LA.
