Dick Clark Productions has tapped a handful of US to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin at the Tracee Ellis Ross-hosted American Music Awards in October.
Gladys Knight, Mary Mary, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin and Cece Winans will reportedly “pay tribute to Aretha Franklin’s gospel roots and her iconic album, “Amazing Grace.” According to USA Today, Sabrina Owens, Franklin’s niece and the executor of her estate, says in a statement: “When I heard some of the initial ideas for the tribute, I knew without a doubt that this tribute will go down as one of the best in American music.”
The Queen of Soul, who died last month from pancreatic cancer, famously hosted the iconic award show in 1976 and 1983. The 46th American Music Awards air October 9.
