Ladies, Would You? Mara Brock Akil Reveals She Proposed To Husband Salim

We all know love and life are sometimes very tricky and very untraditional. Roles are often reversed and the idea of what a man or woman should do or even be in most cases is situational. This was the case for Love Is creator Mara Brock Akil. In a recent interview, the 48-year-old revealed she actually proposed to her husband Salim Akil and that fans of the show would be able to see that very real proposal in an upcoming episode.

“[My show “Love Is”] is 90% truthful and 70% factual…the essence is true and the facts are manipulated. Because, at the end of the day, we have to tell a story. And as unique and wonderful as our story is, it could get boring if you go literal. I can’t wait to get to the episode where I propose to him, because I did.”

The Akils, who celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in April, wed in 1999. They share two sons, Yasin Brock Akil and Nasir Brock Akil.
