Days after the pardon of Alice Marie Johnson led by Kim Kardashian West, Muhammad Ali is now on Donald Trump’s shortlist of pardons. In a statement made Friday, the president said, “I’m thinking about Muhammad Ali. I’m thinking about that very seriously and some others.”
And while Trump believes he’s doing the right thing, Ali’s attorney Ron Tweet, says it’s unnecessary. “The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the conviction of Muhammad Ali in a unanimous decision in 1971. There is no conviction from which a pardon is needed.”
The legendary boxer, who was convicted in 1967 after refusing military service in Vietnam, died of Parkinson’s disease in 2016. His daughter, Laila Ali celebrated the two-year anniversary of his death last week in a moving photo tribute on Instagram

Last month Trump also posthumously pardoned boxer Jack Johnson, the first African-American world heavyweight champion who was convicted in 1913 under the Mann Act for taking his white girlfriend across state lines for “immoral” purposes.
