Designer Kate Spade was found dead in her New York apartment this morning. The fashion icon was found hanging by a scarf by a staff member around 10 a.m. According to the Associated Press, a note was found at the scene but no other details have been released.
Once the news hit, social media quickly reacted to the devastating loss.
Kate Spade taught me it was ok to be Midwestern, and kinda square, and want bigger things for yourself, and accidentally end up in NYC.

My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college. I still have it. Holding Kate’s family, friends and loved ones in my heart.

Breaks my heart to hear about another suicide. RIP Kate Spade. Mental health way more important than physical.

NBC New York reports, “Kate created a line of sleek handbags in the early 1990s that propelled her to the upper echelons of the global fashion and design industry. Her company, Kate Spade New York, has more than 140 retail shops and outlet stores across the country, as well as more than 175 stores internationally. She walked away from the company in 2007, a year after it was acquired from the Neiman Marcus Group for $125 million by the company then known as Liz Claiborne Inc.”
Kate is survived by her husband of 24 years, Andy, and a daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.
