Say it ain’t so! Nichelle Nichols who we all know and loved as Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek reportedly has Dementia.
According to TMZ, Nichols’ son Kyle Johnson, filed legal documents last week requesting four fiduciaries to become the 85-year-old’s conservators. This move would give them control of the actresses finances and decisions related to her health.
Nichols, an Illinois native started her career singing for Duke Ellington before turning to acting. She first appeared on Star Trek in 1966, blazing a trail for African-American women in the sci-fi space. Watch her tell Oprah how Martin Luther King Jr. stopped her from quitting the iconic show.
