Affectionately known to many as Mr. Gaines, owner of the fictional social spot for hearty food and latest college gossip, “The Pit,” Lou Myers passed February 20 after a heart-related emergency the day before.
Lou, who also starred in The Wedding Planner and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, had been in and out of the hospital battling pneumonia since late 2012.
Lou Myers was often casted as the older man with oodles of wisdom and a snarky attitude to match, much like his character on A Different World. He’s appeared on NYPD Blue, The Cosby Show, E.R. and notable Broadway plays.
Cree Summer, co-cast member from A Different World paid respect to the actor last night on twitter saying “RIP Mr. Gains … Mr Lou Myers was the sweetest kindest soul and will be deeply missed #ADifferentWorld”
