Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe have been our relationship goals. A moment that truly took our breath away is when Brown gave his Golden Globes acceptance speech, after becoming the first black man to win Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, and made a point to thank his wife first and foremost. Brown was cut off early the year before, and didn’t want to miss the opportunity!
Last month, their feature in Maroon 5 pianist PJ Morton‘s First Began music video completely stole our hearts. Now the Emmy winner is letting us in on the secret that makes his marriage prosper.He gives us insight into what he observed from his parents growing up, and also shares the number one rule to making his marriage work.
“As a spiritual human being, any time you find yourself too self-involved, then you’re doing something wrong,” he told ABC in an interview. “You’re supposed to be living a life of service, and I wish to be of service to this amazing woman [Ryan Michelle Bathe] who makes my life possible.”
When asked who taught him how to love, the This Is Us star mentioned his parents who “never stopped dating each other” and displayed how to keep a marriage exciting.
