Temptations singer Dennis Edwards died last week at a Chicago hospital.

It had been previously reported that his wife, Brenda Edwards claims he died from meningitis complications. Now, officials with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Edwards’ cause of death is under investigation.

According to WDIV Channel 4, spokesperson Becky Schilkerman said an autopsy was performed and the results are pending. The cause and manner of death are also pending.

There have been reports saying an emergency protection order was filed by an agency that investigates elder abuse claims, stating that 74-year-old Edwards suffered from neglect and abuse at the hands of his wife.

On Wednesday, Brenda Edwards addressed those claims when she was asked if she abused her husband by a Detroit reporter.

“Never, never, never,” she said. “I’m going to find out. I’m going to find out what happened.”

While funeral plans have not yet been set in stone we know that the family is planning a service in St. Louis where he lived with his wife. The city of Detroit is also planning a hometown celebration in his honor.
