The nominations for the 90th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning and some of our favorites have a chance at making history!
While the coveted Best Actress category doesn’t include one person of color, Mary J. Blige (Mudbound) and Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water) are nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Things looked slightly better for our black men in the Best Actor category. Both Denzel Washington (Roman Israel, Esq.) and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) were nominated for their box office hits. Overall, Jordan Peele‘s Get Out was nominated an impressive four times (Best Directing, Best Picture and Original Screenplay)
Common and Andra Day(Marshall) and MJB (Mudbound) are both nominated individually for Original Song and even Kobe Bryant snagged a Best Animated Short nod for Dear Basketball. Watch below.
The Oscars premiere Sunday, March 4, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
