MBFW Spring 2013 – Official Coverage – Best Of Runway Day 2

Jennifer Hudson gave a very candid interview to Oprah Winfrey as part of the former talk show host’s series on OWN, Oprah’s Next Chapter. Of course, the subject of her mother, brother, and nephew’s tragic murder at the hands of her brother-in-law came up. While obviously happy that justice had been served in William Balfour’s conviction, she explained to Mother O that she has forgiven him.

J. Hud told Oprah:

"Yes (I forgive him) ’cause I feel like for the most part it’s not his fault, it’s… how he was brought up.

We tried to offer love, but you were so far gone, that you couldn’t even see that. A lot of things came out, that we didn’t even know about, from his upbringing, which is like he never had a chance. You never had a chance. Had you had the love that my mother gave us, or the background that some have, then you would’ve stood a chance. So how could your heart not go out to that?"

Jennifer also doesn’t hold any grudges towards her sister, Julia Hudson, who brought Balfour into her family’s life. Jen said that she’s never trusted Balfour — going as far back as having suspicions about him when she was in the sixth grade. She did, however, note that upon hearing about Balfour’s background in court – things none of the family ever knew – she understood that he “never had a chance.” She added that he was “too far gone” to see the love the Hudson interview offered him.

Oprah took to Twitter to tell Jennifer directly how moving that is to her.

Oprah tweeted: “@IAMJHUD I think it’s remarkable you were never angry with your sister. amazing grace for sure. #NextChapter”
