Academy Award Nominated Director, Spike Lee jumps into the Netflix pond this Thanksgiving with his first TV series and new Netflix Original Series. Lee’s new series is a 10-episode contemporary update of his 1986 debut entitled, She’s Gotta Have It. Could this be Lee’s big break into television?

Lee’s new series will star DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling. Nola is a Brooklyn-based artist in her twenties who is struggling to find herself while managing her friends, her job and her three significant others: Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), and Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos). This Netflix original will also star: Chyna Layne, Ilfenesh Hadeara, Margot Bingham, Sydney Morton, and Joie Lee.

Lee directed all 10 episodes and even helped to produce the series with the help of, Executive Producer, Tonya Lewis, and co-producers Barry Michael Cooper and Lynn Nottage. As Spike brings his old debut back to life in this 10 episode series, we are curious to see where his creative direction will take us as this is his first time in the Netflix pool, but Lee usually never disappoints us. Like Dear White People, could this be a new trend where movies are turned into Netflix Originals?

Will Lee’s new venture be just another remake that he should have left at the original, or will it be a great blast from the past? We think the new Netflix Original series will definitely have ‘Netlifx-ers’ tuned in when it comes out on November 23rd, 2017. Be sure not to watch without mama’s good ole’ stuffing and home cooked mac n’ cheese.
