The 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards were the first of its kind. For the first time in the show’s 24-year history, genres and categories that are often neglected by other awards shows, were well represented.

Held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the network opted against the typical gender-based awards (Best Actress/Best Actor) and instead decided to consider men and women simultaneously. And while we think Get Out was snubbed as Best Movie Of The Year, the fans did get it right, voting Daniel Kaluuya the Next Generation star and Lil Rel Howery as Best Comedic Performance.

Here are our top three moments of the night.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Auntie Maxine Waters on-stage. Black. Girl. Magic.

Taraji P. Henson took home the award for Best Fight Against the System for Hidden Figures. Watch her incredible speech below.

Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome win for Best Kiss in Moonlight. Besides the classic B-Boy poses backstage it was their speech that made us fall in love with them even more.
