Middle Tennessee State University is the largest public university in Middle Tennessee. Founded in 1911, MTSU grants undergraduate and graduate degrees through its nine academic colleges and schools. Popular majors include Journalism, Recording Industry, Business and Performing Arts. MTSU also features a University Honors College, which affords high-performing students with an experience similar to a small private college. Beyond the classroom, students can be involved on campus through the more than 250 student groups and organizations. The African American Student Association represents and promotes the interests of African-American students on campus, while Collegiate 100 Black Men promotes the enrichment of black men on campus through community service. There are also student chapters of the NAACP and the National Association of Black Journalists. It is MTSU’s mission to produce, maintain, and spread knowledge and innovation by magnifying its reach both nationally and internationally. The faculty and staff are devoted to grooming students to flourish in their desired field of study and future profession.
