Swarthmore College provides a curriculum in both the liberal arts and engineering. The school grants Bachelor’s degrees in more than 50 programs of study. Swarthmore’s Black Studies program acquaints its students with the history and culture of black people in America and across the world. Courses in Black Studies include Dance and Drum Ensemble, Black Urban Communities, Black Literature and much more. Swarthmore is home to more than 100 student groups and organizations. The Swarthmore African American Student Society (SASS) offers support to students through many political and community activities. SASS also works to increase black student enrollment, faculty and staff. The hub of the black community at Swarthmore is the Black Cultural Center, also known as the BCC or “The House,” where students can meet, study and relax. For over 150 years, Swarthmore College has given its students the knowledge and skills to become leaders in their desired fields.
