From Alice Walker to Bernice King and Keshia Knight Pulliam, Spelman has cultivated the minds of African-American women for over 100 years. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is the oldest historically black liberal arts college for women. It is a leader in the education of women of African descent. Spelman offers 27 majors for its students to choose from. Popular majors include psychology, social sciences and visual and performing arts. Through its partnership with Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University, students choose from a number of other degree fields. To enrich its student’s college experience, Spelman has more than 70 student groups and organizations on campus. Among the most popular groups are the African-American sororities including Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha.
