When it comes to the Knowles family and philanthropic efforts, one could say: “Like mother, like daughter!”

Just earlier this week, Michelle Obama praised Beyoncé for her ‘Formation’ scholarship fund, and now her mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, is opening a non-profit for teens alongside her husband Richard Lawson.

According to sources, the husband and wife-duo has opened a community performing arts center called Where Art Can Occur Theater Center in North Hollywood, CA. In addition to the center, there will be a one-year mentorship program for boys and girls ages 12-14 from underserved L.A. neighborhoods. Richard Lawson will mentor the boys known as Richard’s Warriors, while Ms. Tina will mentor the girls or Tina’s Angels every Saturday.

She recently caught up with A.J. to discuss her philanthropic plans (skip to 0:36 for the full scoop):

The Lawsons will kickoff their nonprofit with the first annual Wearable Art Gala at the California African American Museum on April 29.
